at Minnesota's 2009 Food Allergy Resource Fair

We participated in the Food Allergy Support Group at the Resource Fair in November 2009. The fair involved 40 vendors, doctors and an art activity area for kids. We had so much fun with everyone! The Food Allergy Resource Fair brings together food-allergic individuals and the companies that strive to serve their needs.

Here's a picture of our booth at the event:

at FAAN's 2008 Walk for Food Allergy: Moving Towards a Cure - Nationwide

Boy, have we been busy! Since the kick-off walk in Denver on August 17th, members of the Enjoy Life team have been out and about every weekend supporting these exciting, heart-filled events. So many families and friends have taken part this year; it's truly amazing to see the support. Kids of all ages were having a blast. Our boom CHOCO boom chocolate bars have been a smashing success! There have been lots of first-timers for chocolate and it melts their heart (and ours) to know they can safely eat a chocolate bar! Tears of joy have been shed by all.

Meeting our fans face to face, and hearing their stories and feedback is priceless and helps encourage us to bring more safe, yummy foods to those in need. We've also made lots of new friends and hope that we can bring a little extra joy to their lives too. Thank you for all your support.

at FDA Public Meeting on the Use of Advisory Labeling on Foods - September 16, 2008

September has been a busy month for Scott Mandell! On September 16th, Scott participated in a public meeting held by the FDA to review the use of advisory labeling on food products. Scott presented comments on behalf of the American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA) and Enjoy Life Foods.

The FDA is interested in developing guidelines for manufacturers on the use of advisory warnings on food products. Their goal is to assist food producers in using labeling that is truthful, not misleading and, importantly, provides critical information to food-allergic consumers.

In his comments, Scott applauded the Food Allergen Labeling and Consumer Protection Act of 2004 (FALCPA) as an important first step in protecting people with food allergies and other health concerns. He went on to say that current labeling regulations are not sufficient to protect adequately those with special dietary needs. Scott stated that "Advisory warnings are confusing, inconsistent and do not provide adequate information in order for the millions of Americans who must follow special diets due to food allergies, food intolerances, Celiac Disease, autism and other health concerns to make smart and, most importantly, safe food choices."  To read a press release on Scott's appearance at the FDA meeting, clck here.

at USDA Public Meeting on National School Lunch Program - September 10, 2008

On September 10th, Scott Mandell attended a public meeting in Chicago called by the USDA to hear comments on the National School Lunch Program, a federally assisted program that provides free or low cost meals to more than 30 million children every day.

Speaking on behalf of the American Celiac Disease Alliance (ACDA) and Enjoy Life Foods, Scott told USDA representatives that an estimated 2 million eligible children with special dietary needs (due to Celiac Disease, food allergies, autism and other health concerns) do not have access to free or low cost meals that they can safely consume.

Scott commented, “On behalf of the children, their parents and caregivers that are currently excluded from receiving program benefits, I strongly urge the USDA to make the necessary changes to the National School Lunch Program to ensure that ALL eligible students can benefit from this important, federally assisted meal program.”  To see Scott's complete comments, click here.

Carol McCarthy Shilson, Executive Director of the University of Chicago Celiac Disease Center, also presented comments on behalf of Dr. Stefano Guandalini, the Center's founder and medical director.

at Denver's FAAN Walk for Food Allergy - Denver, CO - August 17, 2008

August 17th marked the first of this year’s FAAN walks and Enjoy Life was there in full spirit! After a rainy couple of days, the sun peeked out making way for a beautiful day. Lots of folks stopped by our table to hi, learn more about our foods and try samples of our trail mix, cookies and NEW boom CHOCO boom chocolatey bars. We were really busy! The new chocolatey bars were a hit and people couldn't stop asking for more. (Yeah!) Parents, kids, friends and families were SO happy to find a chocolate bar that was dairy, nut and soy FREE! Lots of happy campers, leaving us happy too ; )

at Kane County Cougar's 2nd Peanut-Free Night - Geneva, IL - July 16, 2008

Who said 3rd time's a charm? What about second! This was Enjoy Life's 2nd year supporting the Cougar's Peanut-Free Night and boy, what a night! More fans showed up than last year (yeah!) - we like to think the good news is spreading! Our Enjoy Life team was on hand to pass out our snack-tacular peanut-free snacks, which brought lots of smiles. Everyone, especially the peanut-free fans, had a blast!

It was nice to see familiar faces from last year's game and meet all the new folks that stopped by. Thanks for coming out and showing your support! We hope you enjoyed all our yummy peanut-free treats.

Ethan and his Dad (who helped bring about the
1st peanut-free night!) are back for seconds!

at the Durham Bulls' Peanut-Free Zone - Durham, NC - June 29, 2008

Enjoy Life took part in the Durham Bull's 6th annual Peanut-Free Zone. USA Baseball took on the Chinese Taipei and peanut-free fans were able to sit back, relax and enjoy the game in their dedicated peanut-free zone.

A local support group, NC Faces, has worked with the Bulls to help make such games possible. Thank you NC Faces and Durham Bulls for working together on such a wonderful event. Enjoy Life was happy to be a part of it and was able to give yummy, nut-free snacks to all our peanut-free fans.

Jane (an avid fan of Enjoy Life) with her
son - thanks for all your support!

at the Clinton Lumberkings' Peanut-Free Night - Clinton, IA - May 19, 2008

Enjoy Life helped support the Clinton Lumberkings in their first peanut-free baseball game! Hooray! Christie Campie and Kami Huizenga, who both have children with food allergies, handed out our yummy cookies, snack bars and trail mix. They also helped spread the word about food allergies to local newspapers and television stations. A special thanks to you!

Contact your local minor league team to ask them to consider doing a peanut-free night. Lumberking's management worked with Christie Campie, whose seven year old son, Eric, has a severe peanut allergy to learn how they can support peanut-free fans at their ballpark. Many thanks to the Lumberkings for hosting a great peanut-free ball game that everyone could enjoy!

Sunday, December 2nd marked the final FAAN walk for 2007. As a national sponsor, Enjoy Life has attended twenty walks nationwide. We've met allergen-free folks near and far, bumping into many Enjoy Life fans! In fact, we meet a little fellow who packed his very own Snickerdoodles as his safe snack for the walk! Good thinking ; )

A great time was had by all. We gave away kazoos, which kids of all ages enjoyed, as well as scrumptious samples of our trail mix, snack bars and cookies. We also passed out Perky's nut-and gluten-free Perky O's. All yum! All smiles! The Enjoy Life crew was on hand to give out samples of our cookies and snack bars to the hungry crowd. The response was so good that we actually ran out of samples on Sunday afternoon! In all, we handed out 500 kazoos, 8,000 free samples and 5,000 coupons...whew, we were sure tired after that

Many Chicago-based Enjoy Life fans visited our booth to say "hey" and ask "what's new". We love meeting our loyal consumers and appreciate you taking the time to stop by!
